Glossary / What is the human seat?

The human seat is the named human who holds the authority to decide. In the control plane the seat is a role in an organisation manifest, not an account with a password: the organisation declares which name holds it, and the runtime refuses any decision made by a name that does not. The shipped organisation declares one — the organiser — and refuses to be widened, because the product's answer to "does the organiser get a delegate?" is still unanswered and a half-supported second name would be worse than none.

Three powers belong to the seat. It decides proposals: approve, refuse with a reason, or edit the text. It issues and revokes grants. It releases a freeze. Nothing else in the system can do any of those.

The seat is what makes an approval mean something. A proposal arrives as a card carrying the action class, the agent that wants it, the intended audience, and the reason it is being proposed. The seat reads that and answers in the record: who decided, and why. A verdict with no reason is refused outright — an unexplained decision cannot be reviewed later by anybody, including the person who made it.

Approval binds to a revision, not to an intention. The seat approves the exact text; if that text is then edited, the old approval resolves stale and the card returns to the queue. Editing a card that was already approved retracts the approval rather than silently replacing it, so a live authorisation for the previous wording dies at the moment of the edit instead of at the moment of delivery.

The seat is the product, not a feature on top of one. The fleet proposes; the organiser approves. Everything else in the system — the ladder, the grants, the log — exists to make that one sentence enforceable rather than aspirational.

What is an agent fleet? An agent fleet is a group of AI agents that share one rulebook, one human approval seat, and one append-only log. Each agent covers a different class of work — event operations, member engagement, moderation — and none of them can act on its own.Read →
What is per-action autonomy?Per-action autonomy means every class of work gets its own rung on a three-step ladder — draft, opt-in-auto, or never — instead of one switch for the whole agent. An unset class behaves as never, never is a floor, and the narrower of the pack and the organisation always wins.Read →
What does it mean that a hand-off is not a sent message? In version 0 the transport refuses to deliver. An approved message comes back to the organiser as a hand-off — the exact text and the exact audience — for them to send themselves.
